A folk song and the Holy Bible, ethnomusicians and priests, live voices and archival recordings... the Latgalian spirit, hidden in the people, in their experience and way of life. One phenomenon belonging to the unique cultural heritage of Latgale that has been kept alive over the centuries is the interaction between folk music and Catholic traditions, and their combination into artistic unity. Sound as a heartbeat, a word in the sonorous Latgalian dialect and the symbol of the beautiful Latgalian soul, honour and piety. Latgalian poet and writer Andrievs Jūrdžs: “The human heart is like a harp with two strings; one joyful and the other – crying in pain. With nimble fingers the fate keeps playing – at times wedding songs, at times – songs of grief.”
